Base Layer: The Foundation of Cycling Gear
A technical base layer is the foundation of a cyclist's equipment, ensuring optimal riding conditions in both summer and winter.
A cycling base layer keeps your body dry thanks to its breathable fabric, which is its primary function. In mid-season, it can also serve as wind protection, and in winter, as insulation against the cold. However, it should always be worn to enhance the effectiveness of the second or even third layer. Indeed, the technical base layer is the foundation of the three-layer technique, especially used in winter: a moisture-wicking layer, an insulating mid-layer, and a protective outer layer against the elements.
There is a wide range of options to suit everyone's preferences in technical base layers: sleeveless, short-sleeved, or long-sleeved cuts, synthetic or merino wool materials, thin or thick fabric... Don't overlook the choice of your cycling base layer to comfortably ride the roads with the right gear.
