Fox or Rockshox MTB forks ?

The 2 American brands share a big part of the MTB forks market. Each brand has a wide range of products adapted to each MTB discipline and some iconic models like the Reba, the Pike or the Recon for Rockshox and the 32 Float, the 34 Float and the 36 factory with the famous kashima coating for Fox Racing Shox.

100, 120, 150 mm what travel to choose for my fork? The travel is not the only criteria to take into account when choosing a mountain bike fork. Indeed, for a cross-country fork, you will be looking for lightness, while dirt riders will be looking for rigidity, but both use the same travel. The same fork could be used for a XC bike and a dirt bike however the settings and behavior of the fork would be completely different.

The following correspondences are generally considered:

XC fork: 100-130 mm
All-mountain/Trail fork: 130-150 mm
Enduro fork: 150-180 mm
Freeride fork: 170-200 mm
DH Fork: 180-200 mm

The manufacturers always want to offer products as versatile as possible, there are on the market forks with "adjustable travel" allowing to use the same bike for several disciplines.
