BONTRAGER: bicycle equipment and accessories
Keith BONTRAGER was born in Calfornia in 1954. As a child, he was already a genius do-it-yourselfer; at 11, this young boy built mini-motorbikes using lawnmowers.
Then he became interested in motorcycle racing and even a driver. Then he turned to cycling, and, in the garage of his in-laws in Santa Cruz, not wanting to invest too much money in buying a bike, he built his first road bike himself in 1979. The following year, in 1980, he built his first mountain bike and founded his company "Bontrager Cycles". In the following years, he will supply a growing demand for bicycles, mountain bikes, tandems, components.
He will always seek to create stronger and lighter components, while seeking an affordable price, in order to obtain the best possible quality/price ratio.
High-end Bontrager wheels
His reputation is such that, in 1995, his company was bought by TREK where he remains a parts designer and consultant. In 2003, Lance Armstrong won the Tour de France on a Trek equipped with Bontrager wheels.
