NINER, the 29 inch specialist

NINER is the brand that was the precursor of the 29 inch bike. When it came to mountain biking, the 26 inch reigned supreme a few years ago; however, the founders of NINER decided to produce only 29 inch bikes and share their passion for this bike. A huge gamble that proved successul.

Since 2004, the 29 inch MTB is allowed in competition and provides an interesting alternative to the 26 inch cross-country MTBs.

Road bike crankset

The crankset is an essential part of the transmission: it's through it, via the cassette at the back and via thechain, that the pedaling will transmit its power to the wheels tho advance the bike.
The crankset consists of a pedal box, two cranks and two or three chain rings with regard to the road bike.

The cranks are made of aluminium, carbon or titanium and have a variable length from 160 mm to 180 mm. Short cranks help to have a higher pedaling frequency while long cranks won't need you to do as much effort to roll.

The cyclist will choose the size of the cranks according to his/her style of pedaling.

Pedals are available in three main categories: double crankset, triple crankset and compact crankset, recently arrived on the market.

The double crankset consists of two chain rings, easily adaptable, with a center distance of 130 mm; its only real disadvantage consists of not being able to have a chain ring with less than 38 teeth.

The triple crankset is made up of three chain rings and is very suitable for cyclists who travel all kinds of roads (flat, mountain, valley) enabling them to have a large number of well-tailored developments with a small chain ring of 30 teeth, for example, to allow them to climb steep slopes as well.

In recent years, the compact pedals have appeared, consisting of two chain rings with a distance of 110 mm which makes it possible to put a smaller chain ring than that on a double crankset.

Note that many cyclists return to the double chain rings by acquiring a compact crankset associated with the new 11-speed transmissions, which allows for a wider range of developments.
