MTB shock absorber: rear suspension

The shock absorber is an MTB part that is located at the rear of the frame to provide additional cushioning to the front shock absorber. The geometry of the bikes are made so that the rear MTB shock absorber differs from the front one and from the suspension fork. The rear triangle of the MTB can thus move and cushion the shocks.
The MTB shock absorber is very present on downhill, Enduro, All-Moutain MTBs because these practices are considered more extreme. Today, you can even find it on some cross-country mountain bikes because its weight then tends to be reduced.

In the same way as a fork, the rear shock absorber is very useful on brittle grounds or to cushion jumps as in downhill mountain bike World Cup events.

Fox shock absorber or RockShox?

Two major brands in the MTB world share the shock absorber market: Fox and RockShox. At Fox, the Float shock absorber is equipped on many mountain bikes and is very popular with riders. At RockShox, the Monarch shock absorber is found on many bikes. Other brands such as Cane Creek and DT Swiss offer MTB shock absorbers. You'll find all these products and many others on Alltricks.
