MTB knee pads: protection comes first
Like a full-face MTB helmet and full-body protection, MTB knee pads are an essential part of the gear of any serious rider who rides enduro, dirt, DH or freeride. Knee pads are there to protect you from anything from a simple knock against the handlebars to a heavy crash.
Depending on the model, knee pads can protect only the knees, or the knees and shins on longer versions.
As with full-body MTB protection, knee pads often use a similar construction process. They are made from microfibres and allow the skin to breathe by wicking away perspiration. The protection is generally made from thermoformed plastic or thick foam.
Depending on the thickness of the MTB knee pad, which varies according to the model and brand, it can be worn under MTB trousers or with MTB shorts.

The first choice to make when selecting MTB knee pads is between models that protect only the knee and combined versions that protect both the knee and shin.
