Road bike helmet: aerodynamic and lightweight
A road bike helmet is essential to protect you in case of a fall. Its aerodynamic shape should fully cover your head, from the forehead ideally down to the nape of the neck, to protect your spine. For safe and effective protection, it must comply with the European standard CE EN 1078, which is indicated inside the helmet. Several elements contribute to the comfort of a road bike helmet: lightweight design, ventilation system (holes allow air to circulate around the skull during exertion), and the helmet adjustment system, most often with a rear dial. The internal foam helps to adjust the size and provides comfort.

Road bike helmet: our advice
It is important to know your head circumference to find a suitable road helmet. Reflective details will provide maximum safety, ensuring you are visible in all weather conditions and at night.
It is recommended to replace your helmet every 5 years, or sooner if you use it frequently.
If you fall, it is important to replace your helmet, even if the impact was not severe. It may be cracked inside, and you may no longer be properly protected.
The price of your road helmet will vary depending on the materials used in its manufacture: PVC, polycarbonate, or ABS for the outer shell, possibly reinforced with carbon. The inner shell can be made of aramid, nylon, Kevlar, or carbon.
The different types of road bike helmets
- Road helmet with an aerodynamic shape and good ventilation.
- Time trial and triathlon bike helmet, also known as an "aero helmet," with a very streamlined shape and ventilation that allows air to glide over the head, providing better aerodynamics.
- Track bike helmet with the same characteristics as time trial helmets.
